A step towards the future or just some money grubbing scheme to stop people from importing titles not avalable in their country.

3DS is the only failure in that respect, but I do hope for Wii U (working title) to be region free).
i hate it as i would love to get some 3D bluRay from U.S.A. but they dont make a region free 3D bluray player as yet
i hate the region locks. i like all those adapter cartridges that you can play games from a different region with

Nothing wrong with putting it on/across all sites (MMGN site wide) to gain more exposure.

Region locking is not a step towards the future. It began with the early consoles from the 80-90's. Due to the different signal standards for each country/region (PAL, NTSC etc.) consoles had to match these standards, therefore releasing games to match.

Nowadays, current TV's (as well as most consoles) support all signals so it isn't really an issue. The main issue now with region locking imo has to do with classification and local laws for each said classification in every country. If the world had a universal law for all types of media, then region locking probably wouldn't exist. But countries like Germany have very strict laws, meaning titles have to meet these standards or not be released. Region locking is a way of local/federal government protecting its people from harsh/illicit media.

Seems more like controlling what they think people should think/act etc if you ask me.
Protecting/controlling same dif lol

Never knew if GTA IV was released in Germany or not, you know, cause of all the controversy of those stupid analysts blaming the game on real life crimes etc.

I hardly find any truth in that by the way.

Unless you are predisposed to violence no amount of violent games will make make you into some crazy nutcase wanting to kill alot of people.

This reminds me of DoAD for the 3DS got pulled because it was PG instead of M and for what?
Kids see worse when they goto the beach anyway.

Bluray's got region lock?

yes it has
I think it's a pain in the backside. They shouldn't have region lock at all
Couldn't careless really.

Pointless me trying to play japanese games when i can't understand them.
Games don't tend to get banned here in the UK so no need to import.
Most movies make it here both on bluray and dvd apart from select special editions. If it bothered me so much i'd just invest in a multi-region player or an NTSC model etc.

In the US there are almost no PAL TV's... the only people who stock them are those that sell to immigrants, such as Europeans, Jews, and Arabs. But these are very rare, and you have to pay a premium for these TV's. [WTF]
Most of the blu rays I buy come from the UK so no big deal ( We share the same region)

FYI not all US blu rays are region locked either.
No they aren't. I have a few in my collection
Most of the blu rays from the UK are either region free or the same region as Australia ( as said by leasha ). If you are looking to buy blu rays from the US you have to make sure they are region free this web site should help you out by telling if they are, www.blu-ray.com/... . Also so if you are looking for a region all blu ray player there are a few on the market, toshiba has one I know of, but I can't remember the model number. The is a US player that plays all region blu rays and DVDs its a oppo blu ray player. You can get them here, but they are not cheap. www.merlinaudiodesign.com.au/... . I have one and by far one of the best blu ray players I have seen.
