Playstation Vita- 3G vs Wi-Fi version

If/when you guys are picking it up, what version would you guys pick up?

To me, I don't think I can justify spending the extra $100 when I got an iPhone that I can whip out that will probably do the job much faster.

Sure I can't do multiplayer/dlc on the go, but does that on a 3G connection anyways? :P
Well the difference between 3G and WiFi is that with WiFI, you need access to a WiFi point. With 3G you can use the internet (and most of Vita's features) wherever you get reception.

Which is useless considering pretty much everyone has a phone that can do tethering.

I don't know about other service providers, but pre-paid Telstra customers can "tether" these smartphones to other devices... At least with an Android-powered smartphone, anyway.

So in other words, all those people (*cough cough* suckers *cough cough*) who sign-up with Vodafail won't be able to use the 3G functionality of their PlayStation Vita like... Anywhere.
The Vodafone network has been receiving significant upgrades in the last twelve months outside of metropolitan areas. Currently I'm seeing people get better 3G reception on Vodafone in Kiama than Optus customers.

Give Vodafone another year and they might actually have their network up to the same standard as every other telco five years ago.

That basically confirms it.

My brother receives full 3G signal on Vodafone whereas I struggle to get anything on Optus. The network expansion really has made a difference for them.

Telstra launched their 4G network in Wollongong last week too. All them speeds!

Last Christmas, I switched to Telstra *_*
Been a lot of Vodafone upgrades near where I live and I haven't found any imporvement at all. As much as people dislike Telstra there 3G service is easily the best.

Well the only place I can think of that I don't get coverage is a family member's property in NSW... In saying that however, the property is considered "remote", and is almost 100KM from the nearest town (Mudgee).

Both with work and outside of work, I've been all over Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, yet the only places I tend to struggle with coverage are so far out in the middle of nowhere that it would never affect the majority of people.

And Telstra's not as expensive as it used to be, in fact their prices are highly competitive these days... You still pay a slight premium, but unlike in the past, it's not so much that they can't justify it.

Annnyyyway, getting back on-topic... lol

I LOVE PS Vita~ (love)
Even if I had the spare case I wouldn't bother with the 3G model, like mentioned earlier most of us have smart phones that can do the job. If we really want to get online while we are out there's heaps free hot spots around.
Wifi cause i have an android phone i can tether it to :D

This is pretty much my logic, yeah. Not going to bother paying for a contract to get slowish internet when i already have a phone that can do the same stuff...
No online play + 20MB cap = 3G USELESS
Pretty much, yeah.

It would be like trying to play online with your PC using a 3G dongle, signal is just to rubbish to do the job.
Quick question....

How easy is it going to be using other carriers SIM cards on a 3G Vita? I know that the Vita is not locked to Vodafone, but should it be as simple as getting a Data SIM from Telstra (like a prepaid iPad one) and slotting it in?
Think it'll drop much in price over the coming year? I have $150 worth of JB Hi Fi gift vouchers, and if I only have to put in another $100 - 150 tops, I'd buy it.

Otherwise, I really don't need it......

& the Wifi version. :D

Yeah was thinking this tooo. I was going to buy at Launch, but just cant afford the console with a game as well. So will wait for sales, surely End of Financial Year will see some savings!!!
Either that, or since I got my vouchers for Christmas, I'm expecting next Christmas for there to be.... pre-Christmas? sales? Lol.

I can wait. :)
lol yeah, I doubt I can wait for Christmas

If it's not locked, then yeah that should be it :)

I'm not sure when I should really get one. I'm getting a few thousand soon, but, uni books real expensive ...
