GAME UK Needs $269 Million Very Quickly

GAME (UK) has fallen on some hard times recently. It was reported recently that the UK based retailer has already stopped selling certain games (Such as Capcom titles), with big news that Mass Effect 3 is officially not being sold by the company due to financial strains. If you thought things were looking bad before, they are about to look alot worse.

News has surfaced, today, that the company needs to raise a staggering £180 million (which is roughly $269 Million AUD) in just one week, or else they will face going into administration. The struggling company will need to pay £21 million in rent payment by next Sunday, as well as a £12 million in wages. GAME also owe their suppliers, the banks and the VAT (much like the Australian GST) well over £150 million. With only one week to come up with the money, and no clear solution of how to obtain it, it is easy to say things are looking grim.

Without the money, GAME will, no doubt, go under. It has been speculated that the retailer is looking to sell, but with things going this badly, it's no surprise that there are, as of yet, no potential buyers looking to take over. GAME Australia has, so far, not shown any sign of financial troubles.

It's basically set in concrete
*gets out chequebook*
lol how do you end up that far in debt. looks like greeces national debt to me

GAME Australia has, so far, not shown any sign of financial troubles.

Um, yes they have - they never have any stock!

Frequently the physical GAME stores have little or no stock, and the Web site often lists "key" titles as being "out of stock"!

I posted a Tweet a while ago ( https://twitter.com/#!/gregoryopera/status/174777425853562880 ) that provided links to plenty of examples on GAME's Australian Web site, and this is the reason I gave up even bothering with GAME...

They may be cheaper at times, but if they've never got any stock, what's the point?

Is it a bad thing that GAME will probably be closing stores in the coming weeks and months?

Absolutely - EB Games is the only real gaming chain we have in Australia and competition is always a great thing for consumers, but GAME have no one to blame but themselves...

I don't care who you are, you don't end up over $200 million Dollars in debt just because you're struggling to fight your competitors!
So what.. Does this mean that Aussie store will have some sort of going out of business sale? cause I wouldn't mind buy like idk 50 games for $100 =D

I'v always brought my Games, Consoles and related stuffz from Eb games or either Jb Hi Fi anyway. =)

Actually, I forgot to mention JB Hi-Fi...

They've become quite a big chain over the last couple of years with increasingly competitive prices, and I find myself purchasing more and more gaming gear from them, so I suppose EB Games is not the only real gaming chain anymore (unless you're talking dedicated gaming chains).

Still, any competition is good competition (for us consumers at least)...
**Stupid phone -_-
I wish there was a jb near my home :(
There's one near work though.
No great loss, they were bad to begin with. lol

What a coincidence, I needed $269 million as well! [MOG]
The store I visit always have plenty of stock and have a very good staff base I'd be sad to see it go and them people out of a job.
I thought these stores were supposed to be making money hand over fist on used games sales...
lol @ where it says game australia haven;t shown any financial trouble,

both Games in geelong closed because they were going broke, some really cheap stuff, i got all the series 2 mario bros still sealed for $20. hopefully the ones in OZ ill continue to make enough money
I need $269 Million very quickly as well but you don't hear me complaining.
They should have a fire sale , everything must go, sure they lose money, but at least you won't go down as being 269,000,000 in debt. Sell your shit, get your shit together and market!! Or go back to school and study business to see how you should do it! The customer will always go the cheaper price and more enticing offer. There's my business studies notes ;)

this is what i was thinking lol
ive always bought from EBgames, they give me a 10-15% discount when my cousin is around, she works there, probs the employee discount.
So you get it no cheaper then what jb has it for anyway
