Vita Hacked, Homebrew on the way?

A hacker by the name of Yifan Lu has claimed he has found an exploit on the PlayStation Vita allowing him to create an application which loads homebrew code onto the handheld.

He has also released a few lines of code to get other people interested in his project and get the ball rolling on homebrew content.

Yifan has confirmed that his application is not designed to enable software piracy on the vita though Sony will most likely look to block any exploit if any if this turns out to be true.

The application itself is based off the Half Byte loader for the PSP but nothing is currently available for homebrew fans to download as of yet.

Vita Hacked, Homebrew on the way? Comments

wow someone actually bothered to not only buy one but also hack it.
Sony should just release an official version of HBL. For those not in the know, HBL allows homebrew to run but does NOT allow retail PSP/Vita games to run. If they allowed homebrew to have it's own section on the PSN they could control the content. They could cut out the emulators and only allow true homebrew to be available.

Never gonna happen. Plus people want emulators and such, someone will always hack the device which will always lead to piracy. Maybe Vita will pick up in the future but I think it's always gonna lack the software.
The way I see it, Sony was at first critical of homebrew on PSP, but then eventually realised it was the only thing moving hardware. Why else would they push a product with absolutely NO. SOFTWARE? Homebrew single handedly kept the PSP relevant and still keeps it relevant. It's probably the best homebrew device you can get.

Sony is quietly waiting for the Vita to be hacked. It's not like the PS3. It's slowly becoming a niche platform, and eventually we'll see it hacked.

Japan still has software support, but that's a different market.

I don't agree with that.

The system is lacking softare as is, and Sony want developers to support it. If it gets hacked and eventually leads to piracy (which while hacked may have good intent it will eventually lead to that) then you can kiss future software support goodbye.

While homebrew would thrive it really is sending the system out for a early grave.
Psp pirating is now on Vita :( www.psvitahub.com/...
Hackers just like the challenge when a company announce their new device is 'unhackable'. Trying to hack the Vita is like a sport to them.
